Makenna is funny

With Brayden off to school, I find Makenna and I spending a lot more time together, and here are a few of the funny things she has said just today...

"Mom I was just watching Barney and they sang I love you, you love me, and I just really need a hug"

Later, after explaining to her that I didnt like her to use the word "butt" she asked
"What should I say, should I say my booty?"

And since Brayden has been off to school Makenna has a created an imaginary friend whom she has affectionately named "Makenny"

Brayden goes to School

Tuesday was Brayden's first day of first grade and his first day to ride the bus to school. He was really excited and so was I --right up until that bus started driving away . Then I was suddenly surprisingly near-tears-sad. I am not usually that kind of mom but I have really been missing him home with Makenna and I . It's hard sending my sweet little boy off into the real world. The second day as I was walking Brayden to the bus stop he told me I didn't need to come with him. I told him I wanted to and he replied "but mom, you're in your exercise clothes."
And then when Makenna said "I love you Brayden," he turned to her and very sternly said,
"Do NOT say that to me at the bus stop. It's embarrassing."
Oh my goodness... I did not expect him to be embarrassed like that until at least middle school. He is growing up way too fast.
He is the one in the picture who has both hands in the air, sitting way too close to the back of the bus (despite my instructions).

The Air Show

Last weekend we went to the air show at Offut Air Force Base. It was really a lot of fun to see all the cool tricks the airplanes can do. It was a bit too hot and crowded to stay too long but we had fun while we were there.

Frustrating but funny

This afternoon we had an extensive talk with Brayden about stranger danger and all that stuff since school starts this week, and I am awfully afraid of sending him alone out in to this big scary world. At the end of it all, in an effort to recap, I asked him-

"So if someone asks you if you want some candy or a puppy, are you going to go with them?"

and he replied:

"No" (hooray- its the right answer, but then he goes on to explain...)

"because I don't think I am old enough for a pet and I am trying to take a break from candy"

This post is not JUST about gardening

Maybe its not as exciting to you all as it is to me to watch my garden grow- so sorry- you can always click yourself right out of here, and I am not offended in the least. The good news this week is that we have eaten green beans from the garden twice this week and... we actually have melons growing!!! It's so exciting to me. I don't know that they will be any good, and I also cant tell apart the honeydew and cantaloupe because they look very similar in the flowering stage and totally indistinguishable in the "young melon" stage (I am guessing that is not a real term "young melon"- but you get the picture right). So here are a few snapshots. Feel free to play-
NAME THAT MELON:

So now for the very sad, very bad garden news... I am almost embarrassed to say it...my tomatoes....have... a... fungus. It breaks my heart. I have started spraying but it may be too late.
Apparently, you can still eat them- you just have to cut off the black parts- which is really hard since there is a lot of black, so I don't know that it will be worth it. I'll let you know how it goes. No one told me to spray earlier- I am so new at this and I was told these "Better Boys" were disease resistant- well apparently not- OYE!
Don't worry too much- it looks like the grape tomatoes I planted are mostly escaping the fungus so all is not lost- just most is lost ;(
So much for "au natural"--Next year I am doing fungicide and pesticides right from the start!

OK, moving right along, here is a picture of the kids swimming at the Owen's apartment pool on the roof in Downtown Omaha- they absolutely love it there- and I love it too since I can watch both of them from the edge without getting in- awesome!
And one final thing- a video of Brayden's favorite past time. Now I need advice here. Should I encourage this, ignore this, or forbid this (seeing as how he could easily land wrong on the floor and break his neck). Honestly please give me your honest opinion- before its too late!

OK I lied- one more final thing, a post script for all you Twilight-loving moms out there. I finished Breaking Dawn this week. It was good and I'll say nothing more . You can find my review, *complete with spoilers*, on goodreads.com
I am actually (surprisingly) really looking forward to the movie. I was skeptical before, but I have been watching the trailers and now I am feeling a lot more optimistic.

Have a good day everyone- I love you all!

I've Been Tagged

I usually avoid these tag type "things" because really I am just not one of those people that has all these fascinating secret things about them. Really with me, what you see is what you get. BUT, in an effort to not ruin the game I will participate and even try to make this interesting (emphasis on the word "try").

3 Joys
1. the obvious - Kevin, Brayden, Makenna, Brielle
2. the obscure- recently on my mind a lot- Edward, Bella, Jacob, Rosalie, Alice, Carlisle, Charlie- yeah yeah you get the picture- and if you don't- you don't want to hear about it.
3. Gardening- I am a novice in a big way but still it brings me joy- which is good because it certainly isn't bringing me any fruits or vegetables :(

3 Fears
1. natural disasters
2.the second coming (you know- the scary part of it)
3.being buried alive (its true- I have already made Kevin promise to bury me with a cell phone- and I am not joking)

3 Goals
1. Spend less money
2. Eat less junk
3. Waste less time (oops, does this count?)

3 Obsessions
1. THIS - blogging, email, facebook, internet, all of it!
2. Twilight series (at least until I finish book number 4- which reminds me- why am I not reading right now- oh yeah, because of obsession number 1)
3. M&M's

3 Facts About Me
1. Never been stung by a bee
2. Have citizenship in both Canada and the USA
3. Have been rear ended three times (and paid for my first car with the settlements)

I tag Julie, Jen, Anne, Kimber, and Patti AND ANYONE ELSE READING THIS (yeah yeah I know if I dont mention your name its a lost cause but still really you should do it)
