Graduating 1st Grade

Brielle's school did a little graduation ceremony.  I guess they do it for every grade.  Here you can see her being called up, hugging her teacher and the principle and then smiling by her good friend Addie.

Her other end of year festivities included a pizza party lunch and a party (with Emmitt and I).  She made some great friends in her class and had an awesome teacher.  At the beginning of the year she struggled to adjust to the new school and changes in her life but she overcame and really even liked school by the end of the year.  We are so proud of her!

Taking things Literally

We were all in the car chatting away and some of the things Emmitt said, just made me laugh...

Makenna was listing all the things she did at school and she ended with "and then we got to watch the movie "How to train your dragon?"

Emmitt:  So do you know how?

Makenna:  How to what?

Emmitt:  How to train a dragon now?

*laughter*

Makenna:  No it was just a movie, and we only got to watch half of it

Emmitt: Oh so you only know half way how to train a dragon?

-----and later in the conversation-----------

Makenna:  ...and I won a drawing for a free ice cream cone

Emmitt:  Do you get to get ice cream in it too?

*laughter by all*   *pause*

Emmitt:  No seriously guys, can you get ice cream in it too?  I just want to know!

Makenna's awards

At her end of year school assembly, Makenna was honored with three different awards.  She received a teacher award from her math teacher Ms Motes.  Each teacher is allowed to select one exemplary student for this award.  Makenna also received an award for her teams achievements in UIL and she was also given an award for being on the "Principles Roll" (which is the highest honor roll).  We are so proud of her for excelling in her school endeavors this year.  We've always known how awesome Makenna is but its nice when she gets recognized for it by others too!

Identity Crisis

This morning Emmitt and I were playing with pipe cleaners and I spelled out his name.  He asked me:
"Mom, why did you even name me Emmitt.  I dont really like that name."

I said Im sorry he doesnt like his name and what would he like to be called.  He answered without a moments hesitation:

"Jack or Jackson"

So there you have it, apparently I named him the wrong name.  So I called him Jack a few times that morning and then he said "you can just call me Emmitt, cause Im already used to that."

San Antonio with the Thomas'

Over Memorial Day weekend, we decided to meet up with our friends the Thomas' in San Antonio. We drove down on Friday afternoon, and stopped in Austin on our way to eat at our favorite fajita restaurant- Lupe Tortilla.  (And well it wasnt everyones favorite- unfortunately our kids arent really that into Mexican food, so they tolerated it, while Kevin and I enjoyed it).  Then we checked into our hotel.  It was an Embassy suites- nothing special but the kids thought it was pretty fancy ;)

Saturday we headed to Sea World, and got just about 4 hours in before it started to storm.  That worked out fairly well as we had just enough time to ride our favorite coaster, and see the shows we hadnt seen last time and play for a bit before getting drenched in a torrential rain and leaving the park because in a thunderstorm everything shuts down!

Unfortunately the rain continued all weekend.  Luckily the Thomases plus the hotel was entertainment enough for us.  The kids swam, ate and rode the elevators to their hearts content.  On the last day we created a hotel scavenger hunt and did elevator races, which were a lot of fun!

Our rooms were at the end of a hallway so that created a spot for the kids to play their games without being in anyone's way.  It worked out pretty well.  Uno attack was their game of choice.
Sunday had the best weather of the weekend (of course), so at least we sort of got some temple pictures.  Its so disappointing that the temple grounds are all locked up so you cant walk around the temple grounds. Nevertheless, the kids and the temple always make a cute photo combination.

While the rain put a damper on our trip, we still had a great time.
