Achilles

It was late one Friday night August 13 to be exact.  Kevin and Brayden were playing pickleball at the church with Jordan and Erik.  They were tied 2 games each and it was time to get the missionary to bed.  But they decided to go for one more game- the tie breaker.  And it was during this game that Kevin sprang forward to get the ball and heard a loud pop and then felt what he described as a table falling on his Achilles.  Brayden called our good friend Dr Haslam who took Kevin to his office and confirmed that Kevin had torn his Achilles tendon.  He got scheduled for surgery the following week and thus began his long long long road to recovery.   It has been tough and it goes on.  We are hoping to have him walking by Thanksgiving.

This is the wound several weeks after surgery when the cast came off.

Farewells

Man on man this is a sad one.  Of course we are thrilled for Brayden to serve but man oh man are we going to miss him.  On his last Sunday he gave a beautiful talk at church and many friends came to show their love and support.  Brielle also spoke and it was a wonderful meeting.  They both did so great. That evening we had an open house where friends and family came to say goodbye.  I didn't take many pictures but there were lots of people there and it was a good time.  My Peterson cousins came from the area and the Grigor boys and lots of ward and stake and even school friends, like Caleb Redman.

There were a few other special goodbyes like to the Schaaks and then Monday we set off early for the airport

These are all missionary mommas right now.  We are all in this together! (Sacia Thornton- Tylers mom, Cori Allan- Ammons mom, me, Kara Schofield (Adam's mom) and Melissa Neddo (Riley's mom)

Good bye photo with the Schaacks

A last Culvers family dinner, where the highlight was the guy who brought us our food said bonjour- trying to speak french... it was pretty funny.

Captured precious family time

And then on to the airport.  Cry Cry Cry... it was tough for all.  Grandma and Grandpa were still in town so that was nice.  Grandpa took it upon himself to film Brayden going through the entire security line- for like 20 minutes... priceless footage... hahaha

break my momma heart

The last family pic for two years.

Grandma and Grandpa.  Grandpa wants it to be noted that he was wearing the handkerchief because he was using it as a mask cause you know covid is still a thing...

First Day of School 2021

The kids had a great first day off school.  They are each the top grade in their school.  Emmitt is 5th grade, Brielle is 8th grade and Makenna is 12th grade...also known as a senior!

Notice the missionary peeking through the window.

Makenna left at the crack of dawn for "senior sunrise" so her picture was in the house ;)
